Klingle Road is probably the most studied road in D.C.’s history. These studies, and all concerned federal and D.C. agencies, agree that rebuilding a paved road in Klingle Valley is a bad idea. The traffic studies, the environmental assessments, and the financial analyses all agree: Klingle Road is a $4 million boondoggle. Road advocates continue to intentionally distort and misrepresent the facts, but no amount of “liniment” can change the conclusive official findings.

Bottle Neck or Open Road

• Restoring Klingle Road will save over 200 hours in lost travel time each working day. That's 180,000 hours in peak travel times each year.
   

• Reducing the idling time of automobiles by 180,000 hours would remove approx. 20 tons of toxic emissions from Cleveland Park and surrounding communities annually.
   

• $1.3M could be saved annually in commuting time that will grow to $1.9M annually by 2017. More than $10M and two million hours have been wasted in travel time since we lost Klingle Road.
   

• Fire & rescue workers agree that restoration of Klingle Road would improve response times and access to hospitals.
   

• A road must be built to retain the city's right-of-way which as been designated as a public road.
   

• A road must be built, to access buried utilities.
   

• A road must be built to retail federal funding for the restoration of Klingle Road. Funds cannot be redirected to other projects.
   

• A bike/hike tail would terminate the designation as a public road. Right-of-way would be forfeited.
   

• Federal $$ will restore the road. D.C. tax $$ will be needed to build a bike/hike trail.
   

• Klingle Road is one of only 6 east-west cross routes through Rock Creek Park, connecting three wards. Ward 3 does not want to be isolated from the rest of D.C.
   

• 3,000 cars used Klingle Road before it was closed in 1990. Will 3,000 bikes or hikers use it daily?
   

• Klingle Road is a long street. It travels west from Park Road in Mount Pleasant to Macarthur Boulevard in Palisades. It is interrupted by the Cathedral Close but further west it takes its place in the alphabetical order of streets. Why close just this 1/8 mile of it.
   

• This 1/8 mile is the oldest and most historic portion of Klingle Road, dating to before 1885 and predating even Rock Creek Park.
