Roadie Credibility reeling after hearing The pro-road "Coalition to Repair and Reopen Klingle Road" had a tough day on March 13th, even without being vastly outnumbered by pro-park witnesses. The road coalition has perpetuated many false myths regarding the Klingle Valley/Road, and at the hearing, these myths started to fall quickly as expert agency heads well versed on the truth started testifying. These federal and DC officials dealt blow after blow to the alleged "facts" the roadies have built their case for a road on, calling into question the credibility of this group. Reviewing the depth of detail of these roadie myths on their website, and then hearing the conclusive expert official testimony, a clear picture emerges that the roadies must have attempted to intentionally deceive the public on the issues. Here are some highlights:
The
roadies have made a big deal about the historic role of Klingle
Road. Most recently, they have tried to hijack the visionary
planning of Rock Creek Park to endorse their pet road "Olmsted
would be dismayed that the DC government has chosen to close
Klingle Road and convert it to a utility gravel road for a few." (see

The roadies tried to attack the Klingle Park plan using
environmental issues, but this appears to have backfired. They
hired a traffic engineer to create a bogus study that alleged
huge air quality issues.
(see roadie website) The roadies have tried to argue that if Klingle was turned into a park, then every other road like it would be turned into a park as well. What was missing, of course, is any understanding of the unique environmental problems of Klingle Valley.
