Why close this portion of Klingle Road? In a word, the ENVIRONMENT. The Superintendent of Rock Creek Park, Adrienne Coleman, publicly opposes any paved road in Klingle Valley because it would pollute Rock Creek. When it rains heavily, stormwater, from the 320 acres of mostly paved watershed, flash floods the valley, massively eroding the creek and roadbed. Klingle Road runs directly alongside Klingle Creek, with no green buffer. A road channels the polluted stormwater into Rock Creek, the Potomac, and ultimately the Chesapeake Bay, while a pervious bike path would allow the water to percolate slower into Rock Creek, filtering the pollution.
